Samson was born in Germany January 2002 passed away in Los Angeles September 2011. He was a Dogue de Bordeaux – Bordeaux Dogge. A gentle giant with a heart of gold, my friend, my companion and soul mate. Samson was one of a litter of 6 puppies. A friend of ours had his mother, her name was LEA. I loved Lea so much, it was totally clear to me that I would take one of her puppies. I got Samson, a fluffy, cute little puppy with giant paws and white markings on his chest when he was 11 weeks old.
I named him Samson.
We ate, slept, traveled, worked, hung out, chilled, enjoyed trips in the car, laughed, talked, did silly things, explored nature, visited friends, shared food and water, cuddled in soft beds, loved snow and rainy days. Never judged, totally trusted, loved me as much I loved him. 9 years and 8 month.
A long journey till his body started to faint, his legs didn’t carry him any more, he took long sleeps in his favorite dark corner in our bedroom next to our bed ~ Monday morning he looked at me and refused his walk, he had a sip to drink and turned back on his doggy bed. I could read in his eyes ~ he was ready and so was I to accompany him on his last journey to leave his weak body.
Samson passed away at 2:45 p.m. on September 26, 2011 ~ with a last deep look into my eyes.
A friend of mine sent me this poem which I love and want to share:
As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that’s trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful — lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I’m alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
‘Twas the Glow of many Candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold. For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we’re never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.
We want to thank our family and friends in the U.S., in Germany and Turkey for the support and condolences for our dog.
