We’ve all seen some unflattering pictures of dogs and cats taken by animal shelter staff members, in a hurry and with no patience. An ugly blue concrete background and a frightened dog on a slip leash tied to a wall. Not very appealing, right? Sometimes there are no detailed descriptions, or any other pictures, provided by the rescues or shelters; and isn’t the picture of a pet the first impression that makes us move and react? I’ve seen pictures where you can barely identify a dog, much less a breed.
Rufino and I are design/art enthusiasts and we are very happy that we have found HeARTs Speak last year through the website The Unexpected Pit Bull and we loved the work they are doing. A non-profit organization founded by Lisa Prince Fishler, located in Millbrook, New York, HeARTs Speak is designed to connect rescues/shelters with artists with the intention of breaking down the myth that animals from rescues and shelters are inferior.
HeARTs Speak brings artists together to promote deeper understanding for voiceless animals. How they do that? By taking outstanding pictures: Professional photographs dedicate time, passion and donate photo sessions to homeless pets in an effort to help the dogs communicate their amazing personalities through photographs that in turn, might help them find their forever homes.
We had the great pleasure of talking to Lisa Prince Fishler, MA, the Founder & Director of HeARTs Speak. We talked about her background, how she came up with the idea to create this beautiful organization and why she believes in the positive impact of animals in human lives. Please listen – and share – to raise awareness about Lisa’s work and her group of caring artists. Also, please check out the website with all of its incredible pictures.
